Qatar return to the World Cup stage having invested more heavily in football than perhaps any nation on earth, transforming their domestic league and infrastructure since hosting the 2022 tournament. Qatar made their World Cup debut as hosts in 2022, where they became the first host nation in history to lose all three group-stage matches. Despite the on-field disappointment, the tournament was widely praised for its organisation. They have also competed as invitees at the Copa América, gaining valuable experience against South American opposition, and reached back-to-back Asian Cup finals in 2019 and 2023, winning the first.
