📖 About Ghana World Cup 2026

01

Overview

Ghana have been one of Africa's most consistent World Cup performers, with the Black Stars renowned for their athleticism, pace and technical quality. Ghanaian football has long produced a remarkable pipeline of talent for European clubs, and the current squad continues that tradition with players competing across the continent's top leagues. Ghana play an energetic, attacking style that makes them exciting to watch and dangerous opponents, backed by a passionate fanbase that travels in large numbers and creates a vibrant atmosphere. They will look to recapture the magic of their historic 2010 run and prove African teams can compete with the world's very best.

02

Road to 2026 & Group L

Ghana topped CAF qualifying Group I to seal qualification in October 2025. Drawn into Group L with England, Croatia and Panama, they face a challenging group but carry the proven ability to upset bigger nations and the enduring spirit of their famous 2010 heroes.

03

Squad & Tactics

Carlos Queiroz brings a structured, counter-attacking approach to a flexible 4-3-3 / 4-2-3-1. Thomas Partey anchors the midfield, Antoine Semenyo and Iñaki Williams supply pace and power up front, and Mohammed Kudus is the creative force. Athletic, rapid and dangerous in transition, the Black Stars thrive on the counter.

04

World Cup History

Ghana have appeared at four World Cups (2006, 2010, 2014, 2022). Their finest hour was the 2010 quarter-final in South Africa, where they came agonisingly close to becoming the first African team to reach a World Cup semi-final, denied by Uruguay in a match defined by Luis Suárez's infamous goal-line handball. Ghana were eliminated in the group stage at the 2022 tournament.

05

🎯 Fun Fact

At the 2010 World Cup, Ghana were denied a place in the semi-finals by Luis Suárez's deliberate goal-line handball — Asamoah Gyan missed the resulting last-kick penalty, and Uruguay won the shootout, in one of the most heartbreaking and controversial moments in African football history.
